After Hurricane Sandy devastated the Hudson Valley in 2012, Lawrence saw opportunity in the fallen trees. What others saw as destruction, he recognized as nature’s gift — a chance to transform loss into legacy through sustainable craftsmanship.
Today, Lawrence leads Gordon Woodwork & Design with the same meticulous attention to detail that defined his medical career, ensuring every piece tells a story of renewal, respect, and timeless beauty.

Hurricane Sandy swept through New York City and the Hudson Valley, toppling thousands of trees — silent giants that had stood for decades. Witnessing this loss, Dr. Gordon felt a deep responsibility: to honor the beauty that remained, and to transform it into objects of enduring meaning and elegance.
From that vision, Gordon Woodwork & Design evolved into a unique design studio, creating bespoke, heirloom-quality furniture from locally fallen or reclaimed trees. Every piece is an expression of timeless design, shaped by hand with the finest craftsmanship.
